Custom Build A Wine Rack For Your Kitchen
Building a wine rack is not only extremely fun but it is an art that can make your kitchen stand out in a great way! Follow along with Kitchen And Bath in this step by step guide on how to make a wine rack for your kitchen!
1. Taking Measurements
To start, you have to take the measurements of the location where you will be placing your wine rack. Write down the height and width and be sure to do this with precision. It is important that you do not mess up in this step.
2. Building The Face Frame
You are going to want to use a table saw and cut poplar to about 1 1/2 inch thick and cut all the pieces according to the measurements you took in the first step.
3. Building Out The Wine Rack Body
In this step, you will need to cut 4 pieces of plywood. You will need to follow the face frame measurements & reduce the size of the body by approximately 1/8 of an inch. Use glue & a clamp, now secure the pieces together, and screw all of them in place. Use a pocket jig & attach the face frame to the body.
4. Wine Rack Shelf Construction
Use the base of any wine bottle & work from the center out. Mark the openings on a piece of 1 x 4 poplar. Using a hole saw with a bit slightly larger than the base of a wine bottle, drill out holes. Repeat once. Follow the same procedure, using the neck of a wine bottle to mark a 1×4 poplar board. Drill holes using a smaller bit. Repeat again. Cut out the poplar boards in half by using the table saw. Rout out the edges of wine rack shelf openings with approximately 1/2 an inch roundover bit.
5. Assembling The Pieces
To attach the shelves, drive wood screws through the sides of the unit and into the shelves. Make sure the shelves are evenly spaced and the back of the shelf is slightly higher than the front of the shelf. Nail a piece of thin plywood onto the back of the unit. Paint or stain the unit. Use wood screws to mount the wine rack to the studs in the wall.
